To JOIN a party, once the owner of the party has sent you an invitation, simply click accept, or deny. If you do not know the friend's nickname, check the chat for it, displayed such as: " Name Has Connected"and click on invite. Mods can cause crashes, corrupt your save files, and make the multiplayer experience boring or annoying and completely unplayable because of that ― unless everyone downloads the same mods as you. That's way too much work just to join a public server you might not even like! Or with a friend who will probably only play the game once! Most of the time, people with mods are required to uninstall them to be able to play on public servers or just with their friends. As you probably know already, mods never work too well in multiplayer.
